In the land of cosmetic dentistry, tooth whitening is the one procedure that has seen a huge rise in popularity over the past decade, not only for Hollywood’s elite but also for your average Joe.
Not a day goes by when you don’t see a TV presenter, personality or soap star without a dazzling smile. Even if you flick through the celebrity gossip mags you’ll be inundated with reality TV stars and people in the media eye with an impressive set of pearly whites.
Having a set of bright white teeth can be an outward sign of wealth. It shows that you can afford expensive treatments to keep your teeth looking in tip-top condition. Although in many cases these celebrities have undergone other procedures to achieve their million-dollar smiles.
At Chelwood Dental, teeth whitening treatments are one of our most popular as it’s a pain-free way of improving your smile and your confidence. The results are instantaneous so you can walk out with a winning smile.
But not all salons or dental practitioners have the same high standards that we have, often treating patients without a license and without the due care and attention you’d expect from a dental expert.
The Daily Mirror recently reported that a shipment of 15,000 ‘dodgy’ teeth whitening kits were seized by Trading Standards at the international ParcelForce hub at Coventry Airport as they contained 300% more bleach than what’s permitted (see full article here: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/officials-seize-dodgy-teeth-whitening-7367287)
Although the kits have now been destroyed it’s believed that they were on their way to unlicensed salons and practitioners.
